Inspiration:
Hope In Springtime is a story based on an extraordinary event that occurred
in my Grandmother's life. It was a moment that stayed with her, until
the day she died.. It was during the Depression; a time when people
were very familiar with the heartache of poverty and hunger. On this
particular day, my Grandmother drove to the grocery store with the only
money she had left. A silver quarter that was to buy food for her and
her family. As she walked into the market, she found her eyes drifting
to an image that grabbed her heart. An elderly woman stood in line,
sobbing because she didn't have enough to buy what she needed. She looked
like an injured bird, broken and helpless. It was at this moment that
my Grandmother walked over to her and gave her the last twenty-five
cent piece that sat in her wallet. It was at this moment that my Grandmother
gave something more valuable than money, she gave someone hope. As she
left the store empty-handed, she worried that her children would have
to share the sparse portions of the little bit of food left at home.
Yet even with this worry, she knew in her heart that she did the right
thing. Then, upon opening her car door, she found herself staring down
at a wonderful gift; a shiny silver quarter. There it was, boldly sitting
on the front seat of her car. From that moment on, my Grandmother believed
in Angels.
